In my previous two posts, I explored the concept of the Interim, or "Fractional," Integrator, including:
What is an Interim Integrator?
Why the need for a Interim Integrator
Are you ready for a Interim Integrator?
If you’ve been considering the benefits of bringing on an Interim Integrator, you’re not alone. Today, in the final installment of this series, I’ll guide you through the crucial process of selecting the right Interim Integrator for your organization. Whether you’re a startup or an established business, finding the perfect fit can make all the difference in driving your vision forward.
How do you find the right Interim Integrator?
Recognizing the need for an Interim Integrator is a pivotal step in your organization’s journey. Selecting the right person is crucial to your path forward. While the Integrator’s qualifications matter, several other key factors can significantly influence their effectiveness:
1. Cultural Fit
Your Integrator will play a pivotal role in your EOS® journey, so it’s essential that they align with your organization’s culture. A good fit means they will naturally blend with your leadership team, fostering an atmosphere of cooperation and collaboration. This is where your Core Vales come into play; look for an Integrator who resonates with your team’s dynamics and energy. That said, remember that this is a temporary role, so don’t get too stuck on the dot here. As long as there's no glaring misalignment, you should be good with a candidate that has good vibes with the team.
2. Alignment with the Visionary
The synergy between the Integrator and the Visionary is vital for a successful EOS implementation. Visionaries are often creative and ambitious, driven by big ideas. For these ideas to be realized, the Integrator must complement the Visionary’s style and pace. A well-matched Integrator will amplify the Visionary’s ideas, propelling your organization forward. Again, because this isn’t your forever-Integrator, it doesn’t have to be the perfect puzzle piece. But consider onboarding someone that “gets you” as the Visionary and can complement your style of leadership. Sometimes this means you’re looking for someone who has strengths in the areas you’re weakest. Other times, it’s about someone who can energize your ideas. It all depends on where you are as an organization and what the biggest need is currently, and identifying someone who can bridge the gap until you have your long-term solution.
3. Passion for EOS
A great Integrator is not only skilled but also genuinely passionate about EOS. Their commitment to the EOS methodology is essential, as it ensures you follow a proven path to success. Look for an Integrator who demonstrates enthusiasm for EOS and a track record of adhering to its principles. Does it have to be someone that’s intimately familiar with your industry? Typically, no. The role is more about managing human energy and driving synergy within the team. An effective Integrator will help your leadership team navigate obstacles and set the Visionary free to focus on advancing the organization.
By considering these key factors—cultural fit, alignment with the Visionary, and passion for EOS—you can choose an Interim Integrator who will significantly contribute to your organization’s growth and success. The right choice will not only facilitate smoother operations but also empower your team to reach new heights.
Ready to find your Interim Integrator?
A good first stop would be Rocket Fuel University. They offer specialized training for Integrators, including an optional Integrator Masterclass. This comprehensive program not only enhances the Integrator's expertise, it also allows them to apply for induction in the Integrator Mastery Forum, where the best-of-the-best hang out to learn and grow together. This is the place to be if you’re a rockstar Integrator, and because Rocket Fuel University is all about the Visionary/Integrator duo, they have awesome platforms to get you connected, including free Rocket Fuel IDS sessions and even a V/I match program.
In addition, there are recruiting companies like Titus Talent and The Metiss Group that specialize in the search for great Integrators. Although they don't usually place Interim Integrators, organizations running on EOS have had tons of success working with these groups in finding their long-term solution.
If you’re local to New England, I’d invite you to consider Beacon & Blade, an Interim Integrator business born from the passion to support Visionaries with an impactful solution while they search for their permanent Integrator, and to mentor those that are currently sitting in the Integrator role but need some coaching to take the company to the next level.
Full confession, I’m the Visionary for this organization! After spending 5 years as an EOS Implementer® and seeing how often the Integrator role wasn’t filled, or wasn’t filled with the right person, my business partner and I decided that we wanted to offer a solve. To that end, we created a business that provides:
Experienced, awesome, “EOS pure and proud” Integrators who know that their role is both temporary and critical
A local/hybrid option, allowing the Visionary and Leadership Team to have their interim Integrator on site and available online
An intentional, impactful, first 90 days giving you quick traction toward your long-term solution
If you’ve got questions about Interim Integrators, let’s talk it over. As I’ve said before, the right Integrator can make or break a company. Let’s take some time to talk over your unique need and figure out how to move you forward.
